Preparing for Your Session

As you plan for your session, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • What to wear - this is always a big questions as you prepare for photos! My best advice is to keep it simple with solid colors and avoid big patterns. With larger families, picking 2-3 color solids to stick to will look great! Kids will photograph more naturally when they’re comfortable, especially with younger ones. Letting kids make some type of choice, whether it’s a headband or part of their outfit, gives the kids some ownership of what they’re wearing.

  • Weather - for outdoor sessions, keeping in mind a few things will help your session run smoothly and can help influence your clothing. Things to consider: windy weather blowing clothing, potential mud/dirt that lures kids in, fun natural props to sit on like logs and rocks, comfortable footwear, etc. In the case of inclement weather, we will reschedule as soon as possible.

  • What to bring - All you really need is yourself! But bringing along a few extra supplies never hurt! Snacks snacks snacks! Snacks are especially helpful for kiddos mid session when the fun is weaning. I keep organic lollipops in my bag, just in case! Other great things to bring include hairbrush, small mirror, makeup for touchups, and tissues for runny noses. If you have any props or objects you’d like in the photos, feel free to bring those as well - your own blanket to sit on, birthday balloons, stuffed animals, a special chair, etc. For any large items, please consult with me beforehand.
